The village smith he stands,
The smith a mighty man is he
With strong and sinewy hands"

In these lines the peot describes the smith. He is dressed in a big black apron with his sleaves turned up above his elbows. And you can see his big strong limbs.
The forge is sometimes thatched or galvanized. There is a big slide door for plough horses and carts to be able to go in.
The forge is a dark place with a big roaring fire
