    old dash churn.
    The old dash churn consists of a "jailpín" a dash a lid and a body which is the shape of a barrel but it is turned in on the sides. Before my mother churn she scalds the churn, dash lid and "jailpín" then she puts it out to air and dry.
    Every morning and evening my mother strains milk into the crocks untill she has them full of cream then she spills the cream into the churn then she puts a pick of salt and she also pours in hot water then she puts the dash in the churn of milk then she puts on the lid and "jailpín" and then she starts to churn. It generally takes her a half hour to churn.
    If a stranger comes in he takes a brash because they say if he does not take a brash the bring the butter with them. When she
