    Local Songs
During the land league days in Ireland, the Curraghmore hunt used to be stopped by the people of the district owing to all they suffered from the landlord. All the farmers around this district used to go miles to stop the hunt with the result they they all got a term in jail. There was a song composed about the stopping of the hunt. It began with the words
“My heart is buoyed with hope
And no longer shall I (ho) mope
With fear and trepidation to my lair
Ye sons of toil have vowed
    No fox hunting is allowed
I have challenged those fox hunters if they dare
    II
Then hurragh for Carrick-Beg, Mothel and Faithlegg
They have given to fox hunting its death blow
Had the sneaking slaves of Tipp
Pluck enough to stop the whip
How joyfully we would whistle “Tally-ho”
It is said that this song was composed by James Flynn and some others
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
