  1. Hedge Schools
    Long ago there were no schools like nowadays.One place where there was a hedge school is “Barr na Baile” in Bridgetown, Clonea, Carrick – on- Suir which means “ The top of the townsland”.It was John Flannery who taught there. The boys sat(?) On the ditch and the master. It was mostly Irish he spoke and taught. On horse back he came to school from Jonestown.
    There was another school in Jonestown ( three miles south of Carrick –on-Suir) where he lived.He spent a few hours in each.
