  1. Historical Tradition
There was a man living on the Comeragh Mountains called Crotty the Robber.
He was a farmer’s son from Russellstown County Waterford. He was outlawed, so he ran away to live on the Commeragh Mountains. On his way to the mountain he met a Landlord after collecting his rents. He took the Landlord’s horse and money. In the cliffs beside the lake of “Com Seangán” he turned a cave into a stable in which he kept his horse. Not far from his stable there is another lake where Crotty himself lived. This is called “Crotty’s Lake”. He had an underground passage fromthe lake leading far out into the mountains, where no soliders could get him but eventually he was got and hung.
