  1. Near this castle stands the ruins of an old church which was formally Catholic. At the time when Aylwards castle was destroyed by Cromwell. This Church was burned. It was used as a burial place for the Bolton family and their decendants. The last of the Boltons to be buried there was Miss Bolton.
    The inscription on her tombstone reads:-

    Sacred to the memory of
    Anne Frances Bolton
    of Brook Lodge only daughter of the late Charles Newport Bolton of Brook Lodge and Anne his wife
    Born 16th June 1648
    Died 2nd January 1932
