When the crescent moon is on its back it is a sign of bad weather.
When it is overcast it is a sign of rain. The sailors say -
"When the clouds in the sky resemble mackerel or horse's tails, they make the loftiest ships carry low sails."
Where there are red clouds about the setting sun rain may be expected.
"A rainbow in the morning is a sailor's warning,
A rainbow in the night is a sailor's delight."
The southerly wind brings most rain to our district.
When the harbour lights are reflected in the the river rain is not distant.
In our district when the Hook light flashes fan-like around the sky we may expect bad weather. There are three lighthouses beyond Waterford Harbour we can always see two of plainly
