One of the largest houses in Woodstown today is occupied by Mr Poole manager of the weir. About forty years ago there lived in this house a wealthy family named Wright. There were two girls employed there one called Mary Power (housemaid) and Nellie Smith (or governess).
One very stormy night when all the family including the girls had retired, the wind was howling through the trees, and the sea was washing up to the house. Mary Power lay awake in bed listening to the storm raging outside.
Her door was locked. I imagine her fright when she saw standing at her door a priest dressed in his vestments and beckoned to her. She stared at him but while she stared he disappeared as suddenly as he had come.
She jumped out of bed screaming and ran to the other girls room. This girl thought at first that Mary was nervous on account of the storms. When Mary told her what she had seen, the girl thought that Mary had imagined
