    Tis of a wild Irishman lately came down,

    'Tis of a wild Irishman lately came down,
    For to view London city of fame and
    'Twas into an ale-house I first took my way,
    And it happened to be on St. Patrick's Day.

    I saw a crowd here and I saw a crowd there,
    Said I to myself "Now this looks very quare,"
    I took up my shillelah all for to get there,
    Thinking every minute it was Ballyhack fair.
    III
    Up jumps a big fellow with a head like a Turk,
    Saying "How are you sweet Paddy, sweet Paddy from Cork,"
    Now turn around, Paddy, if you be so very kind,
    For I ne'er saw a coat that was buttoned behind.
