  1. Long ago thatching was carried on in this district. Many people made their living by thatching. Nearly every house was thatched. There is a man whose name is Mr. Walsh who lives close to Geneva Barracks who still thatches houses. Nowadays tis very few houses are thatched in this district.
    When the people were thatching they used straw and sallows. They got the straw from the farmers and cut the sallows. The straw was kept down tight with the sallows, so it would not blow away with the wind.
