  1. The old people around have no story about the famine.
    It made the district very poor.
    The district was very thickly populated before the famine. We know that because plenty of ruins of houses are to be seen around the district. Long ago there were three public houses in Cloughernagh and now there is only one. There was seven thatched houses in Ballyshuneen and there is not a sign of them now. Two were in Ballinaculla and there is no sign of them now. Four were near the chapel of Carbally and the ruins of them can be seen.
