- The Local Roads
The old road going from KIlmead
en to Portlaw, ran through
Pouldrew, at the back of Pouldrew
Lake, and on through Darrigle,
and out at Kilbunny, and then
into Portlaw.
There are many old tradition
connected with this old road;
it is said that people should
take short steps like a funeral
because long ago a priest was
beheaded there. He dressed him-
self as a beggar, and a woman
who was living there betrayed
him to the soldiers.
Anybody that ever went to live
in that house afterwards always
had the habit of looking out over
the half door.
From that on it is said the
lark never sang, or never will
sing over Kilmeaden.
