school district. It is a castle which is situated on the banks of the river Suir. A family named Powers owned it and they had another in Dunhill. John Power was the owner of the castle in Kilmeaden. When Cromwell came over in the year sixteen hundred and forty nine he made a raid on Kilmeaden castle and hanged the owner Mr John Power on a tree out side his own door. A few says after he went to Dunhill and the owner guarded the castle all the day but he was offered a glass of buttermilk and the man called back Cromwell and told him to take the castle. My People do not know whether there is a dungeon in the castle in Kilmeaden or not.
