- (continued from previous page)They used slice potatoes and put them in the cakes. The pots where the cakes are baked are called ovens but they are commonly known as oven-pots. Potato cakes are made to the present day in some places.
Long ago people used bake cakes on griddles. These were made of iron. It is shaped like this : a round flat piece of iron a bit bigger than an oven is made to stand on a triangular piece of iron on which there is a leg on each angle. These are put on the fire. The cakes are laid on the flat piece of iron called the griddle. The bread made in olden days was much better than the bread made now. The bread of long ago was called oatmeal bread.- Collector
