- There are many kinds of herbs growing in our fields and woods.
Some are useful and others quite the reverse as :-
1. Bind-weed 2. Nettle 3. Robin-run-the-hedge 4. Thistles 5. Briars - and other weeds of every size and variety spring up when land is left un-tilled.
These take root so firmly that even years of careful cultivation is required to destroy them completely.
On the other hand it is said there is a cure for every disease that affects mankind.
In early ages and still among primitive races herbs are the only medicine for curing wounds, sores and other diseases.
The herb-woman or witch-doctor still holds place of honour among savage tribes. Even in our own land we have the 'knowledgeable woman' in whom people place great trust(continues on next page)- Collector
