  1. There is an old ruin quite close to Cappoquin at the Pike which was once a noted school.
    A Christian Brother named mulcahy opened a school there some time after the Emancipation Act was passed.
    With the help of friends and relatives he enlarged and furnished it.
    All the boys from the towns and neighbouring parishes flocked to it.
    Mr. Mulcahy was a great classical scholar and many of his boys became priests and got on well elsewhere as there were few openings for them at home.
    One of them, Fr. Ignatius Foley was the Superior of Mount Melleray.
