A man promised his wife he would not go to a certain pub on a certain night. He was on his way to a neighbouring house (Padruig Nóirín) He man a man on the road who prevailed on him to come to the pub.
On his way home went astray and fell into a lake, His dog "Merry" fell in also. He composed the following.
"Dá deinfinn-se do chomhairle mo ghrádh
Ní bheinn anocht fuar nó fliuc.
    Margheallas duit go siúrálta
Go Tig Pádraig a thriallfainn anocht
Do cuireadh ar fán mé sa loch seo amuigh
Gan cota gan bád a tharraineochadh
    me go dti an port.
Acht Merry ag snámh agus a comaráid chomh fuar leis an sioc"
