The old people long ago had no clocks.

The old people long ago had no clocks. When they went to sell their eggs they went in the middle of the night because they did not know the time. Most of the people when they went on a journey should wait till the cock crew at two o'clock. The animals were scarce then. The people used to walk barefoot and carry the basket of eggs on their head. They made a 'póilín' of hay or straw and fixed it on their head and then left the basket down on it. They had to live on very poor food - potatoes and sour milk for their dinner and stirabout for their breakfast.

Bhí seisear nó níos mó ag breith ar an dtarbh agus ní bhfuighidís breith air chun fáinne do chur air. Bhí an mac ina shuí ar an gclaidhe agus é ag féachaint ortha. Tháinigh fear an tighe isteach sa pháirc agus arsa sé leis an mac "Tá tusa ina shuí annsan agus ní tabharfá cúnamh dóibh chun breith ar an dtarbh". "Bearfainn féin ar an dtarbh sin liom féin" arsa sé. Do sheasaigh sé agus chuaidh sé anall chun an tarbh agus arsa sé leis na fir " Fág an tarbh sin annsan", Ní dúirt sé aon rud
