  1. In olden times there was an old castle across the water called Strandcally, and when the Earl of Desmond raided Youghal he brought all the plunder to Strancally Castle,. The owner of this castle used invite all the farmers esparately to a big dinner. And give them plenty of whiskey so as to make them drunk. He then put them to bed and the bed was fixed over a deep hole of water. As soon as anybody got into it, it turned over and he was drowned and the castle people had his land.
