The following interesting story was told by my father to illustrate the great power of the priests.
Near Cloyne is a place called Castlemary. Here a nobleman lived whose name I am not allowed to give. This nobleman died and his son inherited the place. Some time shortly after the death of the man the local parish priest and his curate were passing the road just outside the domain boundary. They were discussing the place and the P.P. said that the man had left a fine warm [?]rm. The curate answered that he had [?] to a warmer spot. Who was just outside the fence but some men working and the son who owned the place. He rushed out and told the curate that he would have to prove his words or something might happen. The curate at first demurred but the man would not let him go. Then the priest stated that he should get his brievary but still the son would not let him go. Instead he sent a messenger for the priest's requirements and brought him to(continues on next page)- Collector
