    An old woman named Kate Griffin living at the Commons Ballinatray Youghal would not keep a cock at all. She relates that the evening before her father died the cock, for no apparent reason, flew straight in front of his face crowing wildly. He was a strong hale man but that night he died suddenly. Other people will kill the cock if it comes crowing to the door.
    In a certain house on the Youghal Tallow road the cock was kept as stated above. This night two men were sleeping in a room next to the kitchen and the door between the rooms was open. During the night they woke. They thought they heard the firemachine blowing. Next moment a fist of ashes was thrown across their eyes and the cock flew from its
