A halo seen round the moon denotes wet weather and the smaller the halo the nearer we are to rain.
A star seen near the noon is the sign of a storm.
When the moon appears on its back, as the saying is 'when you could hang a pot on it' it is a sign of rain.
When the swallows are seen flying low, the crows making a lot of noise and the seagulls making dives inland, it is the sign of bad stormy weather.
A sure sign of wet weather is to hear the curlew calling.
It is believed that when the cat is seen with back to fire washing his face it will soon rain.
Another sign of rain is to see the dog sleepy and to see the cattle, sheep, horses and goats going for shelter.
When the flags are seen weeping and cobwebs seen on grass it is also a sign of rain.
When the Knockmealdown Mountains appear blue and clear it is a sign of rain and when they appear purple and distant, good dry weather.
