    feathers were coloured and he thought then that he would get no colours so he began to cry.
    When the person who was painting the birds saw sorry the poor little bird was, he had pity on him, and said he would do his best, but when he got the paint pots together, he saw that there was only a little in each pot, so he got as much as was in each jar or pot so that when the bird was finished he had the many coloured feathers which you see on all goldfinches since that day.
