- There was once a woman who lived in Lismore. She was possessed by the devil, and they called her "Petticoatloose," because one night while at a dance the petticoat fell off her. She used to live in the woods, and was the terror of the country-side. She used to pretend to be an old woman and asked the men who would be passing by on a horse for a drive. When she would go into the cart, steam used come out of the horse's legs and next morning the man or the horse would be dead.
