Long ago when people had no churns they made the butter in small cans which took hours and hours to make.
They had to keep turning the can hither and thither near the fire, but very sweet butter was made in this way. - There is a churn on my farm at home. It is four feet long and five feet in diameter. The sides are round and it is only in use about twelve years. There are four beaters inside in it so that when the churn is being twisted the cream will go through the beaters and these make the cream into butter.
