  1. Potatoes are grown on this farm, which I am writing about.
    From two to three acres of land are generally under potatoes.
    The man or boy in the house who is best to care for and drive horses is the one who does the ploughing.
    The ground is always 'top-dressed' before it is turned up, that is, the manure is spread over the land and then ploughed into it.
    This top-dressing has been found excellent for the beet crop.
    In this district the potatoes are most usually sown in drills. These drills are made with a drill plough drawn by two horses.
    The drills vary from 26 inches to 32 inches in breadth. When the drills are made they are again manured.
    The manure is put into carts and drawn by horses to the potato field and it is then spread in the alleys of the drills.
    The 'skellauns' which have been cut by women, are taken to the drills,
