  1. Convenient to my home in McCarthys field, there is a lonely whitethorn tree. The old people of this locality called it the Mass Tree, because in the Penal times the hunted priest said Mass there.
    After many narrow escapes he was at length hunted down by England's cruel soldiers. He was beheaded and put to death.
    Strange to relate, a young girl who lives around here, on a Summers evening two years ago, saw a priest standing near this tree. I mean - the spirit of the dead priest.
