    There was once a widow named Bridie Colman and she lived in Connemara.

    There was once a widow named Bridie Colman and she lived in Connemara. She had one son named Páid. He innocent from birth. Once she had a priest's station and it was a custom to have a little feast (after) the night after the station.
    So the boy's mother went to town to buy a bag of flour and a barrel of stout. So she brought the stout and the flour home, and she tapped the barrel. Then she went out to envite a few relations to the feast and she told Páid not to leave any hand on the barrel.
    When Páid got her gone he wanted to see what sort of a fake was the barrel. Anyhow he began fiddling with the tap until he
