  1. Hedge-Schools
    There was a hedge school in my district in the townland of Dooleed. The land in which the hedge school was is owned by William Lynn.
    It was along the road about four hundred yards from our house. The hedge school was about five feet high and twelve feet long and ten feet wide. The master's name was Mr. Ruddy from Castlebar. They had to write on a slate. The hedge school was made of sods of earth . The teacher used to go from house to house with the pupils and he would stay a night in each
