  1. We have a churn at home, it is about three feet high. Roughly speaking it is one foot six inches on top and about two feet on the bottom. The sides are round. It is about sixteen years old. The lid and the dash are the two principal parts. There is no mark on the churn. There are five hoops keeping it together. My mother makes butter twice a week in winter and three times a week in summer. The churning is much easier in the summer than in winter. Any person who comes in helps to churn lest he would take away the butter. The churn dash is moved up and down by hand. When pieces of butter get fastened on to the dash the butter is made. Hot water is poured in Winter to heat the cream and in summer cold water is poured in to cool the cream to help churning. The butter is taken out of the churn by spades then it is washed several times in spring water and then salted.
