  1. Those were made from the fat of meat. Long ago the old woman used make them at night. They would boil a pot of water on the fire. Then they would be render the meat in it. When it would be rendered they would draw the white of a rush through it. They would leave the rush in it until it had a certain amount of the rendered meat attached to it. Then they would take it out to dry. When it dried they tied a lot of rushes together. They were as good a light as the candles that are used now but they did not last as long.
