  1. Once upon a time there lived a gentleman by birth at Carrowkeel, Castlehill PO. Ballina named Michael Burke. He was noted for jumping, weight-throwing and running, and also for his bravery in fighting other men. It was customary at his time to receive challenges from other men to fight with the sword. He was also a great man at hunting after the deer, and it is said he leaped the river Deel with his horse. These are a few lines about his actions.
    Our hero from Nephin,
    The pride of Creation,
    You heard my neighbours says,
    That he leaped river Deel,
    His actions courageous,
    Will shine for all ages,
    Around Carrowkeel.
He was ajudicator like wise legislator
And he was mediator between us and the Queen
His actions courageous will shine for all ages.
