  1. Each district in Ireland had it's paid matchmaker long ago. He got a few pounds for every marriage he arranged. Mostly all marriages took place during Shrove or "Saraft" as it is called.
    Straw boys visited the wedding house. They were dressed in white garments. One was called Captain, another the captain's wife, and another acted as clown. A straw hat covered their faces. The clown wore red garments. They danced and sang and made merry. When they left the house the other guests
