  1. There is an island situated on Lough Conn about two miles from this school. There was once a Franciscan monastery on this island and the Abbott of this monastery died so they asked the Bishop of this Diocese to the monastery to elect an Abbott so the Bishop elected one. Then they invited him to stay on the island for a few days so he did and afterwards the Bishop was found murdered on the island. The monks stayed for some time on the island after the murder of the Bishop but a monster used to come in from the lake and destroy their crops so they had to go away out of the island and the ruins of the monastery can be seen on the island yet and it is said that before a drowning happens the monster appears on the lake.
