    Once upon a time there was a king who had twelve beautiful daughters.

    Once upon a time there was a king who had twelve daughters. They slept in twelve beds, all in one room, and when they went to bed the door was shut and locked. Every morning their shoes were worn as if they had been dancing all night, and yet nobody could find out how it happened or where they had been. Then the king made it known to all the people, that if any person could discover the secret, and find out where was the twelve daughters dancing during the night, he should have the best one he liked for his wife, and should be king after his death, but who ever tried and did not succeed they should be put to death.
    Another king's son soon came to the palace and he was well entertained. In the evening he was taken to the
