Once upon a time there lived a man in Currabaggan who had three cows.

Once upon a time there lived a man in Currabaggan who had three cows. Currabaggan is a village situated about a half a mile from the Castlebar road and about five miles south of the town of Ballina. This man, it is believed, used to be churning but he had no butter. One day he said to his wife that he would find out who had the butter. He went out into the garden and brought in the sock of the plough and put it in the fire. As the sock was getting hot a woman came in and took the dash and struck a few blows on the churn. She left back all the butter and from that day out they had plenty of butter.
