  1. Long ago there was an old monastery in the townland of Ballymanagh in the parish of Ardagh, in the barony of Tirawley in the county of Mayo. It is between the houses of Paddy Harrison's and Sarah Gibbons. There is no trace of it to be seen now. It is on account of that the townland gets its name. It was a Franciscan monastery, it was one of the first monasteries
