  1. There once lived a farmer in the district who was very fond of making poteen. The police knew him well and he knew them, but all their efforts to catch him were in vain.
    One day he had a round of poteen to run. He let a fire away in the bogs, set up the still, kept a good look out for the peelers, but like the lucky boy he was, no one troubled him. He filled two kegs with "first-shot" and slung them on the back of his horse which he kept tethered near him. He buried the still and all the other instruments, destroyed every trace of a fire, jumped on the horse's back
