    on his way, and was going along a lonely pathway through a wood, when he met a little red man. He was a strange looking man; he had a wrinkled face, small eyes, and red hair turning grey, and a very old fashioned manner. He walked on with Conn, and talked to him quite familiarly. He asked Conn where he was going, and Conn told him all about his journey. Will you take me with you, says the little red man. "I can barely support myself, much less another, said Conn. "No matter", said the little red man, I may be of use to you; so bring me. All right, come along, said Conn. They journeyed on together for a long, long time, until they saw a strange man kneeling, and having his ear against the ground. "Who is that asked Prince Conn. That is the man of the Listening Ear, said the little red man, and take him with you. He can hear the grass growing. "Sure I have not enough money to pay and keep him", said Conn. No matter, said his companion take my advice, and bring him with you. Conn did so. The three journeyed on together till they saw a man herding a field of hares, and he had one leg tied up, and he was hopping about on the other. Conn asked who this was, and the little red man told him this was the man of the swift
