  1. In olden times there used to be two fairs held in a place called Rathfran, (Carrowmore, Ballina) one on the 25th of August, and the other on the 11th of November. In them times there used to be alot of business doing there.
    In the Summer fairs there used to be cattle, sheep, lambs, and in the winter fairs there used to be cattle, horses, foals, and colts selling there.
    They used to pay custom to a man named William McCormick, Summer Hill, (Carrowmore, Ballina) when they bought an animal.
    At them times there used to be four or five tents selling drink, some from Killala, Ballycastle, and even from Crossmolina. They used to sell all sorts of whiskey, wine, lemonade, beer, stout, and brandy. Then there used to be standings selling cakes, biscuits, apples, oranges, and gooseberries.
