In the olden times they used to be challenging each other to fight Duels both in Ireland and England. They took great delight in sending challenges to each other. And any Person who did not reply to the challenge was branded as a coward and lost all respect and honor.

On one occasion an Irishman who never fought any duel received a challenge from a most determined Englishman to meet him at an appointed time and place. This old Irish gentleman went to a man named Walter Bourke in Neiphin, Mayo who was the best dueller with the pistol
