One day a man named John Kelly of Kilcummin was quarrying some stones that were in the way of the plough. When he was some time quarrying he came on a flat stone. He dug around it and was soon able to lift it.

Underneath he found a box full of shells he caught some of them up in his hand but they went in dust. He took them up and under them he found a big stone in the shape of a horses shoe.
