    After the French were defeated, the English soldiers returned to Kilcummin. The people of the locality gathered together in an old building in the church-yard which is to be seen there yet.
    An armed English soldier came and slew men, women, and children. He went into a house in the village an asked the woman of the house to give him a meal as he was very hungry.
    Meanwhile he lay on a form and fell asleep. She put down the pan to fry meat for himself, and when the pan was red hot
