  1. Michael Murphy R.I.P. aged 76 of Caratransa, Carrowmore Lacken, Ballina, was a great thresher. He used to go out threshing on the road, and leave about sixty sheaves in a ring around him. He would thresh them all around then loosen the sheaves and thresh them again. Then he threw the straw to one side. It took on man to build the threshed straw. He kept that way the whole day. He could thresh a good stack of oats in the day. He was so good that all the neighbours employed him. He was able to eat according.
