    out of them, they were then taken and soaked with this liquid made from fat. Thus the rush candles were made.
    When dry and hardened the bundles were sorted away for use. There was a small bit of fine tin made round and tacked on the side of the candle stick at the top. This was called a socket. You could pull the candle up or down as it was needed.
