  1. The Burkes had a castle at Carrack Creeves, in Tom McKeon's landOwner's workman was threshing one day. He brought home a sheaf of straw for a bed. The master got him hung the next day. The workman's two sons were children at the time. When they grew up they enlisted in the British army.
    They came to Kilmore Muais with their regiment. Burke's maid looked out one morning and she told her master that she saw two red-coated men coming at Croc Mor above Farmhill . He jumped out of bed and ran out to hide telling the maid to say he wasn't at home
    When they inquired for her master she told them he wasn't at home.
    They felt his bed and found it was warm. They tracked him through the dew
