  1. McDonald, a chieftain lived in castle at Downpatrick near Ballycastle. The ODonnell's from Moyne and came and killed them all but one child whom nurse stole in churn which she brought to river to wash.
The nurse brought him to the north.
He thought she was his mother. she married a man in the north. One day at school the children told young McDonnell that his parents were unknown. When he came home he refused to est until he knew the truth.
he said he'd have revenge on ODonnell. The nurse told him some of his people were in Lagan (Downpatrick) and some of them in Erris. She also told him a signal gun was hidden in the walls of the castle at Downpatrick. He was to clean it and fire it and his supporters would recognise it and come to his assistance.
