There lived once in Barnhill a woman known as Nell Connor of the Blind Eye. She was a maternity nurse and was more-often called the Mid-wife. One night a little man came for her. He was a fairy and he brought Nell to the fort where his wife and family were.
When the baby was born to the fairy woman of the fort the little man came into the room with a box of ointment to rub on the baby and he warned Nell not to rub it on herself or that she would be sorry.
