    When supper was over there was on oatmeal cake to be made and someone of the family would cut it in small bits and bring it out and put a bit of the cake into each animals mouth and sometimes the people themselves would eat it.
    The children in that time used not be expecting toys for Christmas. Some useful presents they would be expecting such as a dress or a skirt or a pair of stocking, and the boys would be expecting a tie or a new shirt or a cap.
    The old parents would not let their family leave their homes on Christmas night or on Christmas day.
