  1. There is a firm belief amongst the good old people of this country that the tie between mother and daughter is closer than that between mother and son. The Blessed Virgin when travelling with the Holy Child was asked by a woman who was greatly perplexed as to whom she should give or leave some prized possession which is a son or daughter nearest the mother.
    The Blessed Mother consulted the Holy Child and the decision was in favour of the daughter so it remains ever since.
    One often hears this said by a mother. "I wouldn't Compare my daughter with anyone."
